This is an old structure built in the early 19oo's for baths in the hot springs at Sunbeam between Stanley and Challis. It's no longer in use. We drove up to Clayton near here to see a resort ranch that Dad's family is considering for a family reunion in August 2007.

This is one of the hot springs pools people have constructed in the Salmon river near Sunbeam.

We had never seen a sign like this before. This is on the way to Challis. It is a warm dry area in the mountains. I guess wildlife must congregate there in the winter.

Archaeologists have found evidence of bison that were driven off this cliff in the mid 1800's for food for the native people. A Reverend Samuel Parker wrote an account in 1835 about how the bison were hunted. Evidence of a spear point factory are found there too dating back about 1,000 years

Quiz-This is the highest mountain peak in the state. At the bottom of the photo is the crack in the valley floor that occured from the 7.3 earthquake in the 1980's.

Mt. Borah. 12,662 ft. (or maybe 12,862 ft., but I think it's the frist number)
Borah peak?
Pretty pics. I hope we end up in utah before the aug 2007 reunion.
thanks for all the educational info. very interesting. history is much more interesting when you are actually looking at it.
I hope we're around for the reunion too!
Mt. Borah. (And I didn't have to look it up on the Internet--Rachel? Christy?)
Man, those pictures make me homesick!!!!!!!!!!!
No I didn't look it up on the internet! I didn't even look up the height on the internet. It came straight from the vast sea of knowledge in my brain!
of course i looked it up! why would I know that? but i read about it and the earthquake bringing it up 6 inches and all.
I remembered it started with a "B". I think I hiked there with the scouts once. Not all the way to the top though. I seem to remember it raining on us and about the time we decided it wasn't going to let up and we all put on our ponchos, it stopped. Was that the hike where the Buhler boy only brought a pound of hamburger and a frying pan? I might be mixing several hikes together. It's all just mountains after all.
I can't believe the mountains. I've been away from them too long. They look so big and steep. The highest peak in our state right now is a little under 3,500 ft (not meters) and I've never been within 100 miles of it.
I've never seen such beautiful mountains. You can understand that since I've never been west of AL. Now, I really want Christy and Cory to move to Utah, so I can come visit and see these beautiful things in person. We were all driving to Enterprise which is north west of Dothan(about 30 mins away). The stretch of road we were on was kind of hilly and you could see other hills in the distance. Bradley asked why there were mountains. Mel told him it was because we were going north. We got a good laugh out of it. He wouldn't know what to think of these mountains.
