My Favorite Sculpture

Time to wash and wax the bronze statues of Joseph and Hyrum Smith on horseback, depicting their ride to Carthage where they were martyred for their beliefs. It was on this ride that Joseph's companions recorded that he said, "This is the loveliest place and the best people on earth. Little do they know the trials that await them." They rode up this bluff overlooking the Mississippi River.
The scaffolding is in place now it is time to wash. Notice how dull they look.
A squirt of ivory dish detergent and warm water will do it.
The next day they are dry and ready for a coat of Renaissance wax. They will look so pretty and gleaming when we get done. The wax prevents them from turning green from weathering.
Sister Atkinson is my companion at Conservation. Those clouds gathering in the west brought in a cold front and rain storm that started about 60 seconds after we packed up our gear and left.
